You are still here so you must remember one of the characters, the shadowing neighbor, Wilson, across the back fence. Any time Tim had a philosophical question or quandary, he would find himself at the 6′ tall fence with only Wilson’s floppy hat, eyes and eyebrows visible. He was famous for spouting quotes from Buddha and Gurdjiff among other ancient mystics or little known facts from remote corners of the world. Tim relied on Wilson to give him a different viewpoint on his current situation.
I have my own “Wilson”. If you have been following my blog you no doubt have heard reference to my neighbor and his cabin that he cleans with a leaf blower. He is also the shadowing figure in many of my posts about snow shoeing and such.
He too is very well read in the area of spiritual practice. Like Tim’s neighbor, my Wilson has taught me to look at situations in another light.
I remember the year that a friend of mine dressed up as Wilson for Halloween. It was hysterical! He made a little picket fence and devised a way to keep it up to about his nose, put on a hat and walked around giving advise all night. We all need a Wilson now and then!
